Fans of Celtic Music may be familiar with the deep and rich voice of Martin Donnelly. This is his fourth album. Martin Donnelly’s music is filled with the exploration of mystery in the themes of Celtic mythology, the earth and land, ecology, spirituality and life. This album is no exception bridging the old and new ways. Life is a pilgrimage that we journey through which is reflected to some degree in each of the songs. The track “Sometimes When We Meet,” is almost a sacramental ritual encouraging us to meet creation and its maker in a personal kind of way. The kind of revelation is talking about when the walls of mystery fall away in love. Donnelly Challenges us as well with the track “Madman.” The madman is a character who becomes a scapegoat and pariah of social functions. Yet it is he who is free, and we are drawn to him. The album leaves us with the track “Come to the Window (Kyrie Eleison).” The album leaves us with the familiar tones of western liturgy and the hopes of finding what we are looking for. If you are looking for beautiful and haunting Celtic songs filled with lyrics from this world and the next. Martin Donnelly is someone to check out, and he delivers again with “We Are Pilgrims.”
